Attention All Pre-Medicated Patients

Please be advised in keeping with the latest recommendations of the AHA the following revised regimens regarding Antibiotic Prophylaxis are as follows:

Standard Regime:

For Patients not allergic to penicillin:

• Single dose of (4) 500mg capsules of Amoxicillin 1 hour prior to the appointment.
• It is no longer necessary to take the second dosage 6 hours later.

For Patients allergic to penicillin:

• Erythromycin is no longer recommended for prophylaxis. In it's place:

  Clindamycin (cleocin)

  • Single dose of four (4) 150mg capsules 1 hour prior to appointment - no second dose required.

  Zithromax (azithromycin)

  • Single dose of two (2) 250mg 1 hour prior to appointment - no second dose required.
